QLD business owner, Glenda Pastoor, shares her experiences as a First Nation’s business owner, and how she has needed to Invigorate, Build and Maintain her business in a challenging year.

Glenda Pastoor is the owner of Mount Isa based Phoenix Security Services. 2020 has thrown extraordinary challenges in her way, pushing entire sections of her business down because of the pandemic.

But Glenda Pastoor has quickly adapted, reframed her organisation, kept it going; even thriving.

Whilst providing security at venues and events has declined considerably, she has picked up opportunities in other areas including drug and alcohol testing.

Glenda Pastoor prepared her staff to face the unprecedented job market conditions by providing them with extra training. She has also managed to keep all her tight-knit workforce.

Though Mount Isa has been Covid-free, all their personnel are Covid-safe trained. Also, 50 % of the company’s staff have undergone training to carryout explosives checks, a very specialised area where Glenda Pastoor has consolidated her foothold during the pandemic.

Phoenix Security services was also recognized by the Queensland government as Ambassadors for their commitment to employing mature age workers.

Glenda Pastoor wishes all businesses including cafes and restaurants can resume normal trading as they are vital to the communities.
