“We are able to reopen in time for the Koorie Art show, our end of year exhibition showcasing emerging talent, mid-career, established artists who are all Aboriginal or Torres Strait Islanders based in Victoria.” - Tom Mosby (CEO Koorie Heritage Trust)

On December 7 the Koorie Heritage Trust (KHT) will open its doors to the public for the first time after 8 months of Covidd-19 induced closure.

Members of the public can again visit and explore KHT’s exhibitions and various events but most of their activities, including the end of year flagship events will be predominantly presented online.

Tom Mosby, CEO of the Koorie Heritage Trust, said he is excited about the prospect of visitors retuning to the Federation Square based institution.

“It’s very timely given it is the end of the year, and also having emerged from very tough times for all of us.”

He also highlighted that the reopening is still limited as KHT, like all other institutions, must adhere to strict health safety measures.

“This will include limiting the total number of visitors able to enter the building at any one time to 20, as well as requiring visitors to register their details on entry for contact tracing purposes.”

On Saturday December 5, 120 artists from across Victoria will be vying for KHT's annual Koorie Art Show Awards, currently in their eighth inception.

When KHT reopens its doors to the public two todays later visitors will be able to view all the artwork featured in the Koorie Art Show, which they can also purchase.

In addition, visitors will have the opportunity to see up and coming budding artists in the 3rd Koorie Art Show for Kids and Youth.

Koorie Klaus will make a special appearance and Elders will also be celebrated at the Koorie Krismas scheduled on December 12 between 11 am and 2 pm.

The 2020 Koorie Krismas will be hosted, exclusively online, by award winning poet and playwright John Harding.

The event will feature some of the most popular Melbourne based musicians and performers  including Djirri Djirri dancers, The Merrndas, Bumpy and Aaron….
