Meet Asuntha Charles, ActionAid Director in Afghanistan

Asuntha Charles is the Country Director for ActionAid Afghanistan and has been working in the humanitarian and development sectors for more than 18 years. Asuntha was in Australia to speak at the Australian Council for International Development conference on preventing sexual exploitation, and on shrinking civil society space in Afghanistan (where gender inequality and discrimination are widespread.. Afghan women are among the poorest in their communities. Women are considered the most vulnerable of all citizens and seldom have a voice in decision-making at the household or community levels. Their literacy and education levels are also much lower than those of men.)
