"I'm Middle Eastern, born in Jordan and now Australian" with these words, AWF wrestler, Albie Aldahawi responds to the question he gets a lot: Where are you really from. The Assyrian social media star wants to spread the message about the importance of empowering refugees to achieve their goals and thrive in Australia regardless of where they come from.
Albie talked about his passion to wrestling since he was a kid. "I grew up watching wrestling with my father. When I came to Australia, I found out the sports connects us. I used to wrestle with my brother in the backyard" he told SBS Arabic24.
Posting videos on Youtube was the actual starting point, hitting over 20 million views. Albie said he started receiving messages from companies, opening the door for opportunities in the world of fashion. His instagram account attracted over 180k followers so far.
flashback to his childhood, Albie talked about the obstacles he faced as a refugee and the cultural and language barriers that prevented him from taking part in some activities at school. Moving forward, he strongly believes confidence grows as we grow older and get exposed to a diverse range of experiences.
