COVID-19 update: ACT extends its lockdown for the third time

  • NSW expands COVID-19 support payments

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 1,127 new locally acquired cases, and two deaths. 

Following yesterday’s identification of a COVID-19 case in the Yass Valley Council, stay-at-home orders apply to all people living in or having been in the area on or after 9 September.

NSW Health urges residents of Young in the Murrumbidgee local health district to come forward for testing as the virus has been detected in sewage plant. There had been no known cases in that community.

Covid-19 support payments have been expanded for workers and vulnerable communities, including grants for culturally and linguistically diverse groups.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded 445 new locally acquired cases and two deaths. The state now has 3,799 active cases, with 85 per cent of them under the age of 50.

Deputy Premier James Merlino has announced a $22.1 million package to set up community mental health services in regional Victoria and metropolitan Melbourne.

Australian Capital Territory

The territory has recorded 22 new locally acquired cases. 

The lockdown will be extended for four weeks, with further amendments to restrictions from 17 September, including allowing small businesses to have up to five people in the business at any one time or one person per four square metres.
