COVID-19 update: Greater Sydney's lockdown extended by four weeks

Greater Sydney’s lockdown extended until the 28th of August.
Victoria investigates one unlinked case.
No new cases in South Australia.
Queensland faces double COVID-19 threat.

New South Wales

New South Wales has recorded 177 new locally acquired cases and one further death. At least 46 cases were in the community while infectious.

The current lockdown has been extended by four weeks until Saturday, the 28^th of August. An additional three local government areas in Sydney - Campbelltown, Parramatta, and George's River - are now also under stricter movement restrictions, with only essential workers allowed to leave.

In Fairfield only health and aged care, while in Canterbury-Bankstown all essential workers are required to be tested every three days. Consistent rules introduced across Greater Sydney, with shopping and exercise only allowed within 10km from home.

Victoria

The state has recorded nine new locally acquired cases with eight of those linked to current outbreaks. One case is still under investigation.

A number of restrictions will remain in place, including mandatory mask wearing both indoors and outdoors.
