COVID-19 update: NSW pleads with Aboriginal communities to get vaccinated, Victoria rushes with jabs for Year 12 students

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 1,220 new locally acquired cases, and eight deaths.

Director of Aboriginal Health at St Vincent's hospital Aunty Pauline Deweerd urges Aboriginal communities to get vaccinated as soon as possible as authorities are expecting a seven-day average of about 1,500 new cases in September.

Australian Red Cross offers a one-off $400 payment for people on temporary visas or without visas affected by the Greater Sydney lockdown through the Extreme Hardship Support Program.

Victoria

Victoria has recorded another day of 246 new locally acquired cases, bringing active cases to 1,786.

From today, as part of a 10-day priority access scheme, authorities are aiming to get all Year 12 students vaccinated with at least one dose before their final exams. Pfizer bookings opened for Year 12 students, teachers, exam supervisors and assessors on Monday, 6 September.

Australian Capital Territory

The ACT has recorded 19 new locally acquired cases, with at least six in the community while infections.

The ACT Government is offering better access and more vaccination and testing appointments for people with a disability by moving the Access and Sensory Clinic to the Weston Creek Community Health Centre.
