COVID-19 update: NSW promises greater freedoms for vaccinated residents, Vic expands jab eligibility

  • NSW has administered six million vaccine doses so far
  • Victoria expands vaccine eligibility
  • The ACT records its highest number of cases
  • Queensland records two locally acquired cases

New South Wales
NSW has recorded 753 new locally acquired cases, with at least 49 cases in the community while infectious. 

Premier Gladys Berejiklian says the state has now hit the milestone of six million vaccines administered, which means that 60 per cent of the population has received at least one dose.

In 12 local government areas of concern, those between ages 16 and 39 and disability and childcare workers are given priority for vaccination booking.   

Health authorities will announce greater freedoms later this week for fully vaccinated residents. Book today your vaccination appointment.

Victoria
Victoria has recorded 50 new locally acquired cases, with ten not linked to known outbreaks. Thirty-nine cases were in the community while infectious.

Premier Daniel Andrews says anyone aged 16 and over will be eligible for either Pfizer or AstraZeneca vaccine at state-run vaccination centres from Wednesday, 25 August.

Australian Capital Territory
The ACT has recorded 30 new locally acquired cases, with 17 in the community while infectious. 

Testing sites at Kambah and Brindabella Business Park will reopen tomorrow after they were closed due to bad weather.

  • Queensland records two locally acquired cases that are currently under investigation. 
  • The Doherty Institute insists it will be safe for Australia to reopen at 70-80 per cent vaccination, regardless of the number of cases, provided public health measures remain in place.
