COVID-19 update: NSW, Queensland authorities urge people to stay at home

  • NSW aims to give 6 million vaccine doses by the end of August.
  • Queensland's active cases climb to 47.
  • Victoria records four new cases.
  • Federal Government offers additional COVID support payment.

New South Wales

NSW has recorded 199 new locally acquired cases, with at least 50 in the community while infectious.

Chief Health Officer Dr Kerry Chant reminds people not to visit the eight local government areas unless absolutely necessary.   

Premier Gladys Berejiklian wants the state to record 6 million jabs by the end of August. So far, 3.9 million doses have been administered.

Queensland

Queensland has recorded 16 new locally acquired cases, all linked to the existing cluster.

Chief Health Officer Dr Jeannette Young appeals to residents from the 11 local government areas to stay at home and get tested as soon as they notice any symptoms.

Deputy Police Commissioner Steve Gollschewski says police so far have issued 70 infringement notices and arrested 21 people who did not comply with public health orders.
