On Friday, Australia reported at least 50 COVID-19 deaths, including 18 in Victoria, 11 in Queensland and eight in New South Wales. Also, Western Australia reported one historical death.
The number of hospitalisations has increased in NSW and Queensland in the past two weeks. However, it has come down in Victoria, South Australia and Tasmania.

NSW Health has reported a 22 per cent rise in infections from BA.4 and BA.5 sub-lineages of the Omicron variant. The health authority believes BA.4 and BA.5 will become the dominant strain and drive up infections in the coming weeks.
