COVID-19 update: Victoria is back in lockdown from today

  • Victoria is back in lockdown from today, the five-day snap lockdown will last until July 20.
  • New South Wales has recorded 97 local cases of COVID-19 today.
Victoria

Victoria has recorded six new local cases of COVID-19 on the first day of statewide lockdown. The health department has confirmed there were 10 new COVID case in the 24 hours to Friday morning, four of which were already reported by authorities.  All the cases are linked to known outbreaks. The total number of active cases in Victoria is 36.

New South Wales

New South Wales has recorded 97 local cases of COVID-19 today. 29 of the new cases were in the community for their entire infectious period. 75 cases are in hospital, 18 in the intensive care unit, and five are on ventilators.

  • Queensland is shutting its borders to Victoria from Saturday, 17 July. The Sunshine state recorded one new local case today. 
  • Prime Minister Scott Morrison has proposed a plan for new pandemic support measures that will apply to any jurisdiction subject to a lockdown of seven days or longer that is a Commonwealth-declared COVID-19 hotspot.
