On Tuesday, Australia reported at least 43 COVID-19 deaths, including 18 in Victoria and 17 in New South Wales.
Western Australia recorded its highest daily new COVID-19 cases (12,390) since the start of the pandemic. It also reported six historical deaths.
The number of new cases surged across Australia with Victoria reporting its highest daily new infections (12,722) and hospitalisations (519) since 4 April.

It said myocarditis is a known but "very rare" side effect. It is usually temporary, and most people get better within a few days. It is more common in boys aged 12-17 after the second dose.
Australian Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation is considering a 4th (winter) dose for additional groups.
Currently, the fourth dose is recommended for adults aged 65 and older, residents of aged care or disability care facilities, people aged 16 and over with severe immunocompromise and Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 50 years and older.
