Ah Lo's career change from highschool to childcare. Arlo shares his journey from Hong Kong to Australia and how he found a new pathway to continue his passion for education. After working as a secondary school teacher in Hong Kong, he discovered that becoming a school teacher in Australia could be challenging without local qualifications, so he explored opportunities in early childhood education and completed further training to gain the certifications required to work with children. Although Arlo had never run a business in his home country, he now operates his own family day care from home, creating a warm, safe and supportive environment for children and their families. In this video, Arlo shares practical advice for others interested in the sector: from studying early childhood education and obtaining First Aid and Working With Children checks, to seeking support from mentors and service providers. Reflecting on his journey, Arlo encourages newcomers to stay open to new paths, keep learning and trust that starting again can lead to meaningful opportunities and a better balance between work and family life.
