If you are a recently-arrived migrant in Australia, you would have inevitably noticed your Aussie friends or acquaintances using words and phrases that are almost unheard of in other English speaking countries.
While the Australian English has a lot in common with British English, new words developed during the colonial settlement, some from Aboriginal languages and many emerged later in the process of settlement and pastoral expansion.
But another peculiarity of Australian English is the slang. While some words are simply abbreviated, other phrases are much more complicated.
