A major cleanup is underway after damaging hail, thunderstorm and heavy rain lashed Melbourne.

After a very warm day, the mercury plunged from 37 degrees to 24 degrees in Melbourne on Tuesday evening.

The east and south-east of Melbourne were worst hit, with three to four centimetres of hail pelting in Nunawading, East Doncaster, Rowville and Templestowe.
After Tuesday’s storm at least 100,000 homes were left without power, with 30,000 homes still being affected by Wednesday morning, the Age reports.

More than 1000 incidents — including damaged buildings, fallen trees, road blockage and flooding — were recorded on emergency.vic.gov.au yesterday.
