The family and friends got to know about the tragedy when the sisters failed to return home on Monday night.

"They were wonderful young people, and I think it's a very big loss for all of us personally," said family friend Ranjeet Vadassery.

"I was shocked, that was my first reaction. There were a lot of tears, and people rallying together in their grief," he told The Queensland Times.

Anjumol studied at the University of Southern Queensland and was a nurse at Lourdes home.

Asha had arrived in Australia just three months ago and was studying nursing at the University of Southern Queensland.
