Lord Mayor Graham Quirk hosts the official announcement of nominees for the 12th Asia Pacific Screen Awards (APSA) at the Brisbane City Hall on Wednesday.
Forty-six films from 22 countries complete the list with Uzbekistan receiving its first-ever APSA nomination.The Philippines is nominated in four categories, including this year’s inaugural category, Best Original Score.
Nominated for both Best Feature Film and Cultural Diversity Award Under the Patronage of UNESCO is the period film ‘Balangiga: Howling Wilderness’ directed by Khavn de la Cruz.

Also making the list is the film ‘Nervous Translation’ directed by Shireen Seno. Nominated for Best Youth Feature Film, it tells the story of an eight-year-old who one day discovers a pen that can ‘translate the thoughts and feelings of nervous people.’
Maestro Ryan Cayabyab’s music for the film ‘Ang Larawan’ is also nominated for Best Original Score alongside the works of Harry Gregson-Williams of Australia and Omar Fadel of Egypt. 'Ang Larawan' is a musical remake of the 1950 literary play/film ‘The Portrait of the Artist as Filipino’ written by National Artist of the Philippines for Literature Nick Joaquin.
Last year, film producer Bianca Balbuena was awarded Best Achievement in Film and was the very first Filipino to be awarded by the International Federation of Film Producers Associations (FIAFP) for her contribution to film.

The Asia Pacific Awards Gala Night will be held on 29th November at the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre and will be livestreamed on the APSA website.
