While Christmas sees families gathering around the Christmas tree, Boxing Day brings them together in a queue.

Just when you thought the end of Christmas meant the end of leaving your wallet open with reckless abandonment, think again. Today's Boxing Day. Deals and discounts are urging you to leave the comfort of your bed to buy the washer you've been eyeing all year (or you can just shop online while watching the cricket).

Here are some of the best things to purchase on Boxing Day:

1. Christmas items

The costs of Christmas decorations and Christmas-themed items take a nose-dive after Christmas. You may need a little bit of EQ though when it comes to these products - after all, you won't be using them for another year (or use them anyway if you love all things merry and bright).

2. Electronics

Boxing Day is one of the best days of the year to buy big ticket items like cameras, drones or mobile phones.

Be sure to do a quick search before taking the plunge though; some stores may be offering the same item at a bigger discount.

3. Bedding

Anyone who's ever made a bed or done the laundry knows that sheets are expensive (here's looking at you, mum). Make Boxing Day count (like thread count, get it? har har) and look for deals on sheets, doonas, doona covers and pillowcases,

4. Appliances

You really can't do away with not having appliances unless you've decided to crossover to DIY-ing everything and homesteading.

Discounts on appliances such as vacuum cleaners and refrigerators can be quite significant on Boxing Day. Because these items come with hefty tag prices, make sure to do a quick search around different stores before purchasing.

5. Whatever is on sale that you need.

Remember that you're not making a deal if you don't need it in the first place.

Change becomes looser and shoppers become more impulsive when percentage drops are flashed. Make sure you're really going to use that third ice cream maker you'll be purchasing.
