A prolonged hospital stay for a hard-to-diagnose and rare illness drew lawyer and artist Maiko Sentina back to her childhood love of painting.

Key Points
  • Maiko Sentina is a South Australia-based lawyer and artist.
  • After a battery of tests and scans, Sentina was diagnosed to have tubercolosis of the brain which could have potentially been brought about by latent tubercolosis she acquired as a child in the Philippines.
  • She is currently running her first solo exhibit entitled '𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙄𝙇𝙄𝙀𝙉𝘾𝙀/𝙍𝙀𝙎𝙄𝙎𝙏𝘼𝙉𝘾𝙀' which features the pieces she worked on during her stay at the hospital.
People sing. People dance. I actually have to do [art] rather than just it's fun to do. No, I need to do this as part of my healing and recovery.
