Anxiety and depression are among the most common mental health issues affecting people but many still struggle to tell them apart, according to Specialist GP Angelica Logarta- Scott.

KEY POINTS
  • While both conditions can co-exist, Dr. Scott says understanding their differences is crucial for early intervention.
  • Anxiety is rooted in fear and worry about the present or future, while depression stems from a deep sense of hopelessness. In severe cases, depression may lead to suicidal thoughts.
  • She acknowledges the stigma around mental health, especially among those worried about judgment from family or peers and encourages seeking help.
