SBS Filipino sits down with Miss Philippines-Australia Charity Queen Rachel Bernabe and shares her recent travel to the Philippines for a charity tour focused on service, connection and community support.

Key Points

  • Organised by the Philippine Australian Sports and Culture (PASC) Incorporated, Rachel visited Home for the Angels and St Rita’s Orphanage, where she spent time with the children and made donations to help support the operations of both facilities.
  • Rachel also met with PASC scholars from the Technological University of the Philippines, where she heard firsthand about the challenges students face in pursuing their ambitions and the opportunities education can create for a better future.
  • One of the highlights of the tour was an outreach program for the Dumagat Tribe of Barangay Calawis in her family hometown of Antipolo, Philippines. There, Rachel engaged with the local Indigenous community and provided both in-kind and financial support.

Born and raised in Australia, Rachel says her experience across two cultures allows her to serve as a bridge between communities. Through her advocacy, she aims to support Filipinos in the Philippines while also championing Filipino culture in Australia.

Filipino born and raised in Australia is a strength on its own – exposure to two different cultures and communities; so much we can do to support Filipinos in the Philippines; you don’t need a title to do works of charity to help, and you can support in your own way.
