According to Vice Consul Diana Marie Jimenez-Leomo of the Philippine Consulate General in Sydney, being a Filipino-Australian dual citizen opens a world of opportunities for you and your children. You can own property, expand your business, and create a brighter future.

Key Points
  • Children who are unmarried and under 18 years old automatically become Filipino citizens when their parent becomes a dual citizen. This is called Derivative citizenship.
  • Include your children in your dual citizenship application. Under RA 9225, children under 18 whether legitimate, illegitimate, or adopted are automatically recognised as Filipino citizens once their parent becomes a dual citizen.
  • Dual citizens have the right to vote in national elections, work, study, and reside in the Philippines without restrictions.
Regaining your Filipino citizenship lets you proudly say, 'I am Filipino.' It can never be taken away. By embracing your heritage, values, and identity, you add richness to your life and contribute to Australia’s vibrant multicultural society as a proud Filipino.
