The Fair Work Ombudsman (FWO) is currently investigating wage practices and the rights of workers in the aged care sector across Victoria, New South Wales, Queensland, South Australia, and Western Australia, following multiple reports of potential breaches.

Key Points
  • According to the FWO, they have inspected or interviewed 20 organisations, including residential aged care providers, home care services, and digital platforms for home care workers.
  • Anna Booth, the Fair Work Ombudsman, said aged care is a priority sector because of the number of vulnerable workers, including migrant workers.
  • In 2023–2024, the FWO recovered over $40.5 million for more than 22,000 underpaid aged care workers.
The FWO reminded the public that there are many free tools and information available for both employers and employees. They offer an online Pay and Conditions Tool, a helpline, and translated resources on their website to help everyone understand their rights and responsibilities.

Workers can call the Fair Work Infoline at 13 13 94 for free advice.
There is also an interpreter service available at 13 14 50 for those who don’t speak English.
Reports can also be submitted online anonymously.
