Born and raised in Pampanga, Philippines, Deacon Don Mauro Gomez moved from Darwin to Canberra in 2018 with his wife, Cerisse, and their daughters, Dominiq and Denisse, to pursue his calling to the permanent diaconate.
Key Points
- In the Catholic Church, permanent deacons are ordained ministers—often married men—called to a vocation of service, assisting priests and bishops in liturgical, sacramental and pastoral duties.
- Now newly ordained in the Archdiocese of Canberra and Goulburn, Deacon Don says his ministry will focus on serving others, especially migrant communities, and sharing the Gospel through evangelisation.
- He believes every person has a vocation, and that discovering it requires prayer, faith, discernment and the support of a strong faith community.
