In 2025, New South Wales alone recorded the highest number of women murdered in domestic violence situations. Advocates say it's not a one-off situation - and that women's safety remains an ongoing concern.

Key Points
  • Experts say system-wide reform involving justice, policing, housing, and child protection systems is necessary to effectively address violence against women.
  • Survivors say little has changed in decades despite growing awareness of domestic violence.
  • Social Services Minister Tanya Plibersek announced $218 million in additional funding, starting from July.
  • Advocacy groups say more funding and stronger action are still urgently needed to meet the growing demand for services.
