Post-pandemic surge in passport applications triggers lengthy delays

There's growing frustration at passport offices across the country with no end to the application backlog in sight.

Highlights

• On June 7, a daily record with close to 16,500 applications was received.
• Waiting times at the Passport Office can last anywhere from fours hours or more
• Steps are being taken to urgently fix the situation by increasing the number of processing and call centre staff

Pre-pandemic there were around 7,000-9,000 applications daily
