Grandparents

In this episode, we will uncover the latest scams circulating in the community, how fraudsters target their victims, especially the elderly, and what you can do to protect yourself.

Key Points
  • According to Scamwatch Australia, total losses due to scams in 2024 reached a staggering $318.8 million. Seniors aged 65 and above lost the highest amount, totaling $99.6 million.

Have you ever received a text or call from an unknown number?
Or perhaps an email with a threatening message urging you to click on a link for an important financial transaction?
Before you click, take a deep breath and think carefully, because you might be falling into a scam.
If you have been a victim of a scam—whether online, through a phone call, or via email—you can report it to the ACCC or call the Australian Cyber Security Hotline at 1300 292 371 for investigation, even if the scammer is overseas.

Additionally, report the incident to your local police and bank for further assistance.
