Alam Mo Ba. Ukay-ukay sa Pilipinas, off-shop naman

sa Australia. Ano nga bang pagkakapareho at

pagkakaiba? Narito ang detalye sa Alam Mo Ba.

Parehong tindahan ng second-hand items tulad ng

damit, bags, books at gamit sa bahay. Pero may

ilang mahalagang pagkakaiba sa ukay-ukay at

op-shop. Sa Pilipinas, ang ukay-ukay ay kadalasang

galing sa imported surplus, mura, presyuhan ng

tawaran at minsan diretso sa banketa o maliit na

pwesto. Pang-budget. panghanap ng branded o

vintage finds at sobrang patok launa sa mga

bargain hunters. Sa Australia naman, ang tawag ay

op shop na pinaikling opportunity shop. Hindi lang

basta ito thrift store. Kadalasan, pinapatakbo ito

ng charities tulad ng Salvation Army o Vinnies.

Ibig sabihin, ang kita ay napupunta sa mga

community services gaya ng suporta sa migrante,

aged care, homelessness, mental health programs at

iba pa. Isa pang kaibahan sa op-shop, may sistema

ang donasyon. Kailangang malinis at maayos ang

gamit bago i-donate. Kaya mas organised ang

tindahan, may price tags at may proper shelving.
