Empowerment, health, and community connection took centre stage as Filipino women gathered for an International Women’s Day forum organised by ADHIKA Inc., bringing together leaders, health experts, and advocates to discuss the evolving role of women in Australia.

Key Points
  • Among the key topics discussed at the forum was the often-overlooked issue of social isolation among older Filipino women, highlighted by Dr Della Maneze, researcher from the University of Wollongong.
  • Health professionals also highlighted breast cancer as a major health concern, noting that 1 in 7 women are at risk.
  • Addressing the forum, Philippine Consul General in Sydney, Charmaine Rowena Aviquivil highlighted the enduring influence of women in Filipino culture, likening them to the babaylan, and urged attendees to reclaim this legacy in modern society.
