Sa live radio broadcast ng SBS Filipino sa FECCA 2025 National Multicultural Health and Wellbeing Conference, ibinahagi ni University of Technology School of Publich Health Adjunct Fellow na si Michael Camit (PhD) ang kahalagahan ng health literacy o “kasanayan sa kalusugan.”

  • Ipinaliwanag ni Dr. Camit na hindi sapat ang pagiging mahusay sa Ingles para lubos na maunawaan ang mga usaping medikal. Maraming Filipino-Australians ang nahihirapan pa ring mag-navigate sa mga sistema tulad ng Medicare at NDIS dahil sa mga hadlang sa kultura at sistema.
  • Hinihikayat ni Dr. Camit ang paggamit ng “Check-Back” o “Teach-Back” technique upang matiyak na nauunawaan ng pasyente ang paliwanag ng doktor. Isa itong paraan ng pagpapalakas ng loob ng pasyente na maging aktibo sa sariling kalusugan.
  • Paalala nito na bagama’t mahalaga ang tulong ng pamilya, mas mainam pa rin ang paggamit ng propesyonal na interpreter upang matiyak ang tama at kompletong impormasyon, lalo na sa mga sensitibong medikal na sitwasyon.
