The white koala joey, a female, was born at the Australia Zoo, on the Sunshine Coast, in Queensland.
The koala is not albino; her colour is caused by a recessive gene. The mother also gave birth to other white koala joeys in the past. The baby's white fur should be replaced by the usual grey fur when she grows up.

It's quite a rare phenomenon, koala usually being grey. Those from the south of Australia are generally bigger and darker than those in Queensland.
Australia Zoo is now asking the public to name the baby. You can suggest a name on Tourism Australia's Facebook Page.

If you want to see the joey in the flesh, you can find her in the Mums n Bubs enclosure at the Australia Zoo.
