Ted Smout - An Australian Digger on the Western Front 1916-1918

Ted Smout, one of the last diggers from the Great War when interviewed on SBS French in 2001 . We spoke just after the film Moulin Rouge was released in Australia.

 The day after the Armistice in 1918 , he went to Paris - AWL - Absent Without Leave - He booked into a hotel The Rue de Calais, 200 yards from The Folies Bergère. He spent 10 days there before he was picked up by the Military Police and sent back to his unit.

Ted Smout, was awarded with the Legion of Honor Saturday 4 July 1998 at the Australian Memorial in Villers-Bretonneux in Northern France.
