Almost every time dinner or lunch is being served on a plane the machine gets thrown around by turbulences.

It makes it impossible to sip on your rough red wine out of the plastic cup or take a bite of the overcooked beef or chicken.

For the nine passengers of a German business jet over Oman the turbulence the jet flew into in January had much more severe consequences.

The jet, operated by Munich firm MHS Aviation flipped at least three times and was thrown into an uncontrolled descent.

It went into a more than 3000 meter free-fall, shutting down both engines.

Cause of the incident was an Emirates Airbus from Dubai to Sydney flying just 300 meters above the German business jet.

The crew of the jet managed to recover control and made an emergency landing at Muscat airport, with one seriously injured passenger.

Details of the incident will be covered in an upcoming report from the German Federal Bureau of Aircraft Accident Investigation.

So called “wake turbulence” from A380s have happened before.

An Air France airplane was violently jolted by an Emirates Airbus near Frankfurt airport only recently.
