The German Lutheran Trinity Church in East Melbourne is once again celebrating the life and death of Saint Martin, a Roman soldier and monk who died on November 8, 397 and later become known as friend of the children and patron of the poor.

In Germany, St Martin's processions are held all over the country on November 11, with children carrying paper lanterns. It's a spectacular display, held in the late European autumn and a great opportunity for the community to come together.

In Melbourne, the festivities will be held on 26 May, which of course coincides with the late Australian autumn. There will be German church service at 5pm, followed by a colourful lantern parade to the nearby Fitzroy Gardens.

Later in the evening and back at the historic Church, there will be German Glühwein, food, laughter, music and other sounds of merriment for adults and children alike.
Wanted: Volunteers and musicians
To help make the event a success, the organisers are asking for volunteers to come forward and lend them a hand. They are also looking for talented brass instrument players - see above!
So what's holding you back? Polish your instruments, fill your lungs and seize the chance to blow your German trumpets in Melbourne by sending your details to redaktion@kirche.org.au
Good luck!
