An intensive search was commenced after a park ranger in Trephina Gorge, 76 km north-east of Alice Springs, had realised that the couple´s car was not moving. Wilfred Thor, 76, and his wife Gisela Thor, 73 are believed to have been in the area since Friday.
NT Police fears the body to be that of the missing man, Gisela has not been found. The full-scale air and land search continues.
The area has been in the grip of a heatwave, with temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius.
