The Australian Psychological Society (APS), which supports Marriage Equality, has compiled a tip sheet. It's meant to help parents, teachers and caregivers who want to have conversations about marriage equality with their children.
They include:
- Let your children know it is ok to talk about marriage equality.
- Listen carefully to children to understand what they really want to know.
- Explain the meaning of LGBTI words.
- Let children know there is diversity in relationships.
- Talk to children about what marriage equality means.
- Offer alternate views of relationships – not everyone wants to get married.
- Clarify any confusion and misconceptions about the marriage equality vote.
The Australian Marriage Forum (AMF), which opposes Marriage Equality, has also been active. It has been publishing full-page adverts in Australian newspapers. It is urging all voters and their children to say NO to Marriage Equality.
It says:
- Is it 'Equality' if you force some kids to miss out on their Dad?
- Is it 'Loving' to destroy the primal love between mother and baby?
- Is it 'Tolerant' to silence opponents with anti-discrimination law?
- Is it Right to impose homosexual education on all our kids?
- Is it Honest to lie about what you are going to do with marriage?
- Is it Even Necessary, now that all couples have equal benefits?
