In September 1975, Sydney eagerly awaited a concert by legendary Hollywood-Star Marlene Dietrich.
Her Majesty’s Theatre in Haymarket, which does not exist any longer, was sold out and the lights dimmed for the star of the show to make an entrance and sing one of her signature songs. However, Marlene never made it to the front of the stage. On her way through the darkness of the back stage, she fell into the open orchestra pit and broke her leg. She would never be able to walk without the help of a stick. Marlene knew that her career was over and she retired to the loneliness of her Paris apartment where she died alone and allegedly destitute in 1992
