In the early hours of Wednesday, August the 8th, Germany witnessed its hottest night since records began in the late 19th century: Almost 28 degrees Celsius!
The sleep-shattering temperature was reached at Bad Harzburg, one hour south of Braunschweig.
But what does the record-breaking German summer, with daytime temperatures stubbornly reaching 30-40 degrees, mean for man and nature?
To find out, we spoke to German meteorologist Michael Knobelsdorf from the German weather bureau in Hamburg.
