No matter where you look, plastic is everywhere. Jean-Michel Custeau, son of the well-known oceanographer Jaques Custeau, makes a gloomy prognosis: By 2050 there will be more plastic than fish in our oceans.

There is hardly a beach in Australia, where you can't find any plastic bottles, grocery bags, straws or disposable cups - sure you have seen the images more and more in the media in recent months. Thankfully, says Richard Hamernik, though it still looks better on the surface than underwater. He is one of the divers who regularly clean up at 20m depth in Moreton Bay, the coastal and island region off Brisbane.
