Footy is the Australian national sport and the Aussies literally breath football from the word go. The German favorite sport, on the other hand, is soccer, also known as (European) football. It also plays a role in Australia, but - despite numerous attempts - doesn't attract the same crowds on the elite stage. And that's exactly why there are quality differences in football in Germany and Australia. At least that's what ex-Bundesliga player Alexander Baumjohann (34) told our SBS correspondent Sabrina Frangos. The professional footballer used to kick for Hertha in Berlin, and several other German giants, including Bayern Munich. He came to Australia to join Western Sydney Wanderers for the 2019/2020 season before moving to his current club Sydney FC.
