Rustam Huru was one of many refugees who arrived in Germany in 2015. At the age of 19, he fled his homeland of Syria via Turkey to Germany and has since been living in the Lower Bavarian city of Passau, directly on the border to Austria.

In the meantime, the "Bavarian Syrian" has fully integrated into Germany, feels at home with his family and has applied for German citizenship.
We were always told that there are human rights in Germany. I wanted to learn these rights, of course, and that's why I learned everything up to Article 18 or 19 by heart. I wanted to learn how to behave as a human being there.
Rustam Huru (27)
He owns a pair of the traditional "Lederhosen" and now speaks "both" languages - German and Bavarian. In an interview with SBS, he talks about his escape from Syria and his successful integration in Germany.
