Borussia Dortmund is expanding its presence in Australia, with a possible Bundesliga team tour in 2027 and a growing academy network. At the German International School Sydney, the club introduced former Dortmund player and Socceroo Mustafa Amini as the new BVB Academy coach and coordinator.
Mustafa Amini is the new coach and coordinator of the BVB Academy at German International School Sydney. For the 33-year-old, it’s a full-circle moment: born and raised in Sydney, he spent three years at Borussia Dortmund and represented the Socceroos.
At Dortmund, Amini witnessed Jürgen Klopp lead the team to the 2013 Champions League final. Klopp’s combination of personal connection and high standards has continued to influence Amini’s approach to coaching.
The Sydney Academy is part of BVB’s global academy program, with the club already working with international schools across several Asian countries. In Australia, the aim is to develop young talent for the long term rather than simply visiting for short-term tours.
BVB is also considering a first-ever tour of Australia by its senior team, with a possible visit to Brisbane in late July 2027.
