Uta Poltze, has been the principal of the Deutschstunde in Sydney since 2015. The organization belongs to the Community Language School Federation and has been offering German lessons for 14 years. Since the Corona epidemic made online lessons necessary, they have become so popular that they continue to offer them to give non-Sydney residents the opportunity to participate. Student numbers are growing steadily and now there are already 280 students in all age groups and at every language level. We discuss why it can be desirable for 2nd or 3rd generation immigrants to learn German. In particular, the German Language Diploma offered can provide educational and career opportunities, such as the prerequisite for being able to study in Germany.
