According to a new language difficulty ranking, it takes an English speaker about 750 hours of learning to be able to read and speak German in a reasonable way. Others – particularly - Arabic and some Asian languages require a much greater effort.


Barbara Barkhausen has met a Sydney woman who she thinks speaks fluent German without a hint of an accent. How long did Liesl Baldock take to reach that level of language competency? Barbara reports:
