Helmut Loersch, who was born 1950 in Bonn, started his career in the German consular service back in the 1970s. His first overseas mission was Melbourne, followed by a rich and distinguished international career.
In 2013, Mr Loersch moved back to Melbourne, this time for good. The avid traveler, tennis player and rower is married and the couple have two adult girls who live in Sydney and London.
Other stations of his career were Saudi Arabia, New Zealand and the United States, to name a few.
