Megalomania? "Big things" on Australian coins

Once there were around 150 so-called "Big Things", now there are said to be around a thousand along Australian highways. The giant sculptures and buildings in the shape of animals, people, fruit or vegetables are usually kitschy, but so popular that they have now even been immortalised on the country's coins. Barbara Barkhausen asked whether the "Big Things" are cult objects, tourist traps or perhaps just kitsch. And she asked German emigrants which new "Big Things" they would still like to see. Some rather unexpected answers came to light.
