Happy Birthday, Germany

It's Germany's birthday! The Federal Republic was founded 75 years ago — and the GDR. This marked the beginning of a very unique era of division and unity, of freedom and dictatorship, of “economic miracles” and bankruptcies, of social change and stagnation, of old statesmen and youthful protest, of turning times and times of change. It all began - at least in the three western zones - with the adoption of the Basic Law on May 23, 1949. This is how the Federal Republic of Germany began.
