Helga Prenzels life story 3/3: The most important thing in life is the family

Today we are hearing the third and last part of Helga Prenzel's life story. In the first part she told us about the escape from Breslau - now Wroclaw - in the cold winter of 1945. The family spent ten months on the road before finally settling in northern Germany. In the second part we heard about her father and his clever activities with which he kept the family afloat during the war and on the refugee treck, from their arrival in Bielefeld, where she met her husband, with whom she emigrated to Australia in 1958. And that's where we pick up the story today. We are finding out about the organisation of emigration, the passage on the ship, the first months here in the refugee camps, which were also not so easy, and then how the family settled near Wollongong, since the father found work there in the steel mill. There, on the coast in the south of NSW, the family rebuilt several houses and grew and thrived, so that Helga now has 4 children, 8 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren, all of whom are living nearby.
