Ingrid Piller is Professor of Applied Linguistics at Macquarie University, Sydney, where she previously served as Executive Director of the Adult Migrant English Program Research Center (AMEP RC). She specializes in topics that are becoming more and more important in today's society: intercultural communication and multilingualism, language learning and bilingual education; and published, reviewed and consulted a great deal in this field of research. Her award-winning book Linguistic Diversity and Social Justice focuses on the social impact of linguistic diversity, on the individual and on society. During her international career she has also worked at universities in Germany, Switzerland, the United Arab Emirates and the United States. She is a Fellow of the Australian Academy of Humanities and received the Anneliese Maier Research Award in 2018.
