Susanne Mueller-Byrnes talks about her personal experiences during the night of the 9th to the 10th of November 1989 - the night of the fall of the Wall. Nobody knew how to judge the situation when the news came "the wall is open". She was 23 years old, studied at the Humboldt University, and lived right next to the wall in East Berlin. Together with a 4-member rock band "Die Gäste", who gave her a lift in their Russian Volga taxi, she drove across the border for the first time at Bornholmer Strasse.

In two further parts of the interview, we will hear about more aspects of Susanne's life story. How did it continue after this first night? What is her assessment of the situation in the GDR before the fall of the Berlin Wall? What is she thinking about the political developments today? How did she get to Australia? Because now Susanne lives in the Northern Suburbs of Sydney.
